2020 - what a year.
It’s been a funny old year, 2020. So far. It’s not even over yet. We’ve been busy during the COVID-19 crisis:
Data usage is 400% up
Customers are now online 24 hours a day
The lesser spotted ‘Electric Cable Finding Digger’ hit a few times - in one case, severing an 11,000 volt cable and blacking out 10 square miles of the Mearns.
As a result of above, we’ve installed our largest 8 sites with marine-grade battery backup to provide power backup for up to 20 hours. It’s wasnae cheap!
We’re installed a second Gigabit leased line to our transmission site in Montrose
Commissioned a new transmission site south of Fourdon with two 1 gigabit links
Replaced and overhauled many of our high speed links between sites
Replaced our 1 gigabit licensed link to Montrose with a 1.7 gigabit licensed link (going live soon)
Added another Licensed link south from the Garvock
Martin - our newest engineer - has now survived a year with us
Bill has given up the 1,000 mile a week commute and is now full-time on Marykirk.com. He’s already worn out two pairs of Crocs!
We now have engineering cover seven days a week, from 9am to 6pm.
Joined UK WISPA - the UK association for Wireless Internet Service Providers
